About Matt:
I live in Oxfordshire in one of the smaller villages just west of Oxford. I moved to Oxford in 1998 for an Automotive Engineering Degree course at Oxford Brookes University. Part of the degree course was a year in industry where I was lucky enough to get an industrial placement with the now defunct Arrows F1 team. I made some great friends there and gathered a lot of experiance that enabled me to leave my degree course and walk straight into a job working with Williams F1 Team (you will spot a theme starting to appear). In 2006 I left Williams to carry on my career with a company called Delphi Diesel where I helped design a small part of the software for truck Engine Control Units (ECUs). Unfortunately this job was based in London and the commute started to wear on me so I found another job that was a bit closer to home. I started at Honda F1 in 2007 and stayed there through the amazing Brawn year in 2009 when Honda pulled out of F1. Now I'm working at Mercedes AMG Petronas.
I've been swimming for a long time (with a large break) and this challenge, and it really is a challenge, is the result of several years hard work and a few more that are still to come. If you have read my first blog entry (the beginning of the end) you will know a bit more about why I'm doing this, if you haven't please take the time to. I first started to raise money for Aspire in 2012 when I found out who they were and what they did. This was the first time I had swam seriously since I was 18. If you don't know about them, or haven't heard of them before, use the link above to explore their website, it can tell you much more about the good work that they do than I could on this short page.
In 2013 I put all of my training to the test and tried my first long distance sea swim to the Isle of Wight, I managed to raise just over £1500 for Aspire and this time I want and need to do a lot more. So if you haven't already please make a donation to my just giving page by using the link above.
I'm happily married and have been since 2006, although we were dating since 1997, and while I'm looking forward to swimming the channel I know that she is slightly worried about it. She missed the last swim to the Isle of Wight due to the weather being slightly temperamental and the swim getting postponed, but this time hopefully she will be able to board the support boat and join me on the epic swim across the channel to France.
Thanks for reading and showing an interest :)
