The journey is coming to an end. The voyage of discovery in to channel swimming, that I started over 2 years ago in June 2014, is getting very close to the final goal. In under 1 month (hopefully, it is dependent on the British weather after all) I will be attempting to swim the English Channel, 22 miles through the busiest shipping lanes in the world. Since booking the boat I have swum for just over 314 hours, all of them training for this swim. In that time I have swum over 950km, that’s like swimming from London to Turin in Italy or swimming the English channel 27 times. |
Actually now I've found out the numbers I'm surprised that it isn't more. I've been chased by cows, attacked by swans, stung by jellyfish and, my most memorable wildlife encounter, slapped in the face by a fish. The scary thing is that I don’t feel like it is enough. That’s the problem with massive challenges you never feel like you have done enough. To make matters worse, I’ve started getting a lot of issues with my right shoulder while swimming and it has delayed my plan slightly as I’d wanted to do a 6h + swim before now.
Anyhow had a nice visit from these guys one of the last times I went for a swim, they chased me round a car for a few minutes and then realising that I didn't have any food decided to leave me alone.
