I've been struggling to think of a topic and to find time to write my latest blog post. This is due to an increase in training and just a general lack of time. Luckily Goose fat has come to my rescue, what a delightful topic...
There is a common misconception about channel swimmers covering themselves in goose fat to keep themselves warm. Unfortunately it isn't really used for warmth it is used to stop things chaffing. There are probably a few people reading this who have run some long distances and know what I'm talking about. I have a problem with the stubble on my chin rubbing on my shoulders while I'm breathing, even in fresh water this can be an issue.
It's a lovely thought and I have had several people offer to cover me in goose fat, most of them said it in a way that makes me suspicious about their intentions... Needless to say I'm not letting anyone with goose fat get anywhere near me but I do need to find something that will last longer than Vaseline which has only stayed on my skin for about 4 hours in the sea.
