Ok, so you don't see me much at the moment what with the start of the F1 season and the swimming training that I'm currently doing but August is going to be rather special. I had a different topic in mind for this blog post which I will now use later on as I received some rather exciting news this week and have decided to share it instead.
I had a phone call on Tuesday from Aspire asking me to help them out: they have had someone pull out of one of their Channel relay teams and wondered if I would be interested in stepping in. I said yes. Well, why wouldn't I? So, at some time in August this year I will get to see exactly what I have signed up for as part of the Polar Bear relay team. I've yet to meet the other members of my team but from what I have heard they are quick swimmers so it will be interesting to see what time we cross in.
It wasn't the only exciting swim news this week either, I've heard of another swim which is rather exclusive. I won't say too much more until I hear that I have managed to get a spot, other than it will be a big challenge possibly the biggest one I do before my solo Channel swim.
I'm also doing a solo end to end swim of Lake Windermere (a week or so before the channel relay) with chillswim. It is a 10.5 mile Channel rules swim, non wetsuited & unable to touch the support boat, so again brilliant training for the Channel.
Finally, I'm doing the Henley Swim bridge 2 bridge in August too: 14km down the river Thames. Again I'm doing this without a wetsuit. I was a safety swimmer last year (in a wetsuit for most of it) but this year I was lucky enough to get a skins entry!
Basically all this means that I'm not really going to be around much over August!
